I am going to make the Easy Marshmallow Fondant recipe on here and was wondering how long it will last? I know they say to wrap it good, but do I need to keep it in an air tight container? If so how long will it last. Days, weeks? Thanks in advance.

Nothing in it to go bad. I've made it 2 weeks in advance and it tastes good still.

When I know I need alot of fondant I will wrap and refrigerage for a couple of days then I put it in a freezer bag and freeze. When I know I will need fondant I put it back in the fridge a couple of days before I need it and it works fine.

Hi, you have to cover it with saran wrap with a little bit of crisco and then I put it in a ziploc bag, pop it in the refrigerator and mine stays good for a couple of weeks... I've never used anything older than 2 weeks but I'm guessing there should not be a problem, as there are no ingredients that can go bad. Just make sure it is air tight! Now about freezing, I've heard of people who do it with no problems, just like Cupcake mentioned and I've also heard of people having problems with freezing it. I personally don't. Good luck!
Oh, and I know you are not asking, but may as well share, I found that the "easy MMF" recipe is NOT as good as the regular MMF recipme, for some reason mine did not turn out great! But good luck with yours! Hope this helps.

I beg to differ, but I am certain MMF should be stored at room temperature. Wrap in plastic and then in Tupperware. Store in the cabinet. It should be good for at least a year.

Hi TheVienneaus, do you really keep yours room temperature? Tell me more, if you don't mind, I would like to store mine room temperature instead of the refrigerator... this is the first time I've heard you can leave it room temp, and for a year? If you don't mind sharing, please, I really would like to know how to do it. Thanks! Love to learn new things from other people' experience.

This quote comes directly from Wilton.

How to Store Fondant-Covered Cake
Iced cake can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days. Excess fondant can be stored 2 months in an airtight container. Do not refrigerate or freeze.

So, my "year" was a little off ... but as far as I can see, there is nothing perishable about it. But as often as us cake-decorators use the product, we probably wouldn't have it a year anyhow.

I store my MMF at room temp. I wrap it in plastic wrap and then place in a ziplock bag or airtight container. I've kept it as long a 6 months and I think it would last much longer. It's nice to make a big batch to have some on hand when you need it.

When I get ready to use is I just warm it in the microwave and knead with just a touch of shortening.

So, you all use homemade fondant? I tried making it and it almost burnt out my KA and was a bit chunky! I was under the impression that you really need to buy it for it to come out smooth.... It is a small fortune icon_cry.gif so I use the 40% coupon to buy it so I can make roses but as for covering a cake in it...... I am scared.

Thank You Ttatummm, I will start doing this TODAY! I have 2 batches in the refrigerator right now, do you think if I take them out, use a some today and keep the rest room temp, should I be fine, even though it has been refrigerated before. Let me know what you think! Again, thanks for sharing... and 6 months!! That is perfect! Thanks again!

I don't think anybody on cake central buys fondant. From posts I've read since I've joined, everybody loves the MMF ... recipe is here:

nefgaby:
The fondant should be fine at room temp even if it has been refrigerated before. I did that a couple of time when I first started to make MMF. It seemed strange to leave "food" out for so long, it took me a couple of tries before I believed it would last months with out refrigeration.

cakediva:
I never use my KA, I knead it by hand. It is really pretty easy to do it by hand. Pretty much like making bread but stickier. A lot of folks on CC don't use the full amount of powdered sugar, but I do. I do add a tablespoon or two of extra water toward the end of the kneading process to get it all in though. I originally got the recipe from a different site and that was how they said to make it.

So far I've made all my own fondant. But, I'm now at the point that I'm using so much that I'm thinking about purchasing it. I won't use Wilton's, I've tasted the stuff and I think its inedible. From reading the posts here, lots of folks buy fondant. The 3 brands that folks seem to like is Satin Ice, Prentice, and FondX. I'm going to order some of each and see which one I think is the best.

Thank You so much Ttatummm... You've been of great help to me, really appreciate your advice! Thanks again, my fondant has been room temp since yesterday!!! Happy about that, as I almost never have extra space in the refrigerator! Take care!

It's great to be able to store fondant at room temp! I always have little nubs of colors left that I don't have anything to do with. I just wrap them up in plastic wrap and throw them into my "miscellaneous" bag! icon_smile.gif

I just used some 3 month old MMF yesterday. I had it stored in plastic wrap and a ziplock container in my cupboard. I just microwaved it for a few seconds and put some crisco on my hands, then kneaded it a bit....good as fresh. I too have a container full of different colours.

I don't have a KA (yet) and find it pretty easy to make by hand. It costs much less that way.
