Was just wondering why would you put a flower nail in the cake to bake it?

thanks

I put greased, inverted flower nails in the center of my larger or deep cakes to help conduct the heat to the center and cook it evenly. It acts in a similar way as the heating core but makes a MUCH smaller hole. I just did a 12" round, 3" deep and used 3 flower nails. It worked great and no big holes to plug.

I forgot to add that when you flip the cake over, they are sitting right on "top" and are very simple to pry off with the point of a knife.
