Has anyone ever actually gone to the auditions? They are coming to Memphis which is 6 hrs away from me - I'm wondering if it's worth going or not. I'm not major superstar (yet) but I thought it could be fun and it could just be funny watching all the crazies that show up just for the heck of it (I hope that's why they're there). So has anyone ever gone or had a friend that went?

I have a friend that is traveling to San Antonio, Tx (7 hrs away) for the auditions they are having there. She must really think she can sing cause she using credit cards to pay for gas and gas is $3.08 for regular right now! I have not heard her sing so I can't say if she has a chance or not. People have told me I have a set of pipes but I know for d*** sure I'm not as good as the people I hear on TV... it's rare that people have a good a voice as they do. Oh well. Her money right? icon_rolleyes.gif

When are they supposed to be in Memphis? They were scheduled to come here last year and then Katrina hit New Orleans and they cancelled the auditions here.

They're supposed to be in Memphis Sept 1 - 3. You audition on the 3rd but have to register on the 1st or 2nd. So no one has actually been, huh? When is your friend going, reenie? I'd love to know how it goes for her!

I might not be good enough to win, but it would be awesome to go to hollywood or to make the top 10 so you at least get to go on tour icon_smile.gif Then, if you don't do anything after that - at least you had an AMAZING once in a lifetime experience of touring & singing and even making the American Idol CD icon_smile.gif

Well, my friend is back from San Antonio! She go to the second round and said that she'd never do anything like that again! icon_eek.gif She said that most of the people there were simply there for their possible "time in the spotlight" and that they had what seemed like staged characters to try out!

what do you mean "staged characters"? Like some people were trying to act like "the rocker" or "the country guy" or something or that A.I. had like actors at the auditons that they planted to try out? She made it to the 2nd round? Is that hollywood or is that when you go in front of Paula, Randy, & Simon?

I mean like people that where put there to act like you said the rock singer and country singer! They have to go through so many diffrent try-outs to narrow the hundreds of people that try out down to one... she made it to the second try-out and then was sent home.

my sil tried out for AI year before last ( i think that was the one)

she tried out in San Francisco.. I think this is how it went. She went WAY early one morning (some spent the night) to get a wristband. then they had to come back and they were put into groups who had to sing in front of 3 people (not simon paula and randy) who tell u whether or not you make it to the next round (which I believe is paula simon and randy). These people told my SIL she wasn't "kelly clarkson enough" (PS. she's black, and no she doesnt sound like Kelly clarkson). My sister (neither do i) didnt think that was racial or anything. Just about her sound I guess. but they did let a "few" people through who OBVIOUSLY made for good tv. ie. there were about 6 people out of her group who can sing, but maybe 3 out of that bnch made it and then some others who were good for tv LOL

my sister did end up being on another reality show.. she was one of 3 finalists..

it is soo funny to know that you can get picked for being good for tv.

Too cool! Thanks for sharing! So did she feel like it was a waste of time to go to the audition at all, or did she feel it was worth it to go and try? So she thinks if you get past the first "round" you see Paula, Randy, & Simon? But she's not sure? I'm just so curious about the "process" of it all.........
