I am not talking about petal, lustre,or sparkle dust, but disco dust. I have tried applying it with just the brush and brush it on the fondant/gumpaste, but it sticks to the brush. I have used vodka, extract, and leaf glaze and it just clumps up. Does anyone have tips on how to apply? Thanks!
I only use a little bit of the dust, for example I just dip my brush in the dust and swirl it on a kleenex napkin then dip it in the vodka. It stills clumps up. It is the dust that beryl's and creative cutters sell. Yes, it does look like glitter.
Thanks for your response!
Yup, have the same stuff. Hmm. When I mix it, I dump a little dust in a small bowl (I have these cute little mini bowl that fits maybe a tablespoon of liquid) and then add the vodka--I use an old medicine dropper from the kids' medicine to add it. I think mixing it up like that may make the difference.
I pour a bit in my hand and blow it all over the cake.It randomly covers..Does just fine!!
Kiddiekakes,
I have tried picking up the dust with my fingers and sprinkling it on the cake, but more stays on my finger than the cake. Thanks for the response!
I am the disco glitter queen
! I use the stuff at every available opportunity (see photos lol!). On royal icing - I just sprinkle whilst wet, buttercream - apply as soon as you have a smooth surface, and fondant - I just give it a fine misting with water. For all these icings I apply the glitter by putting a little in the screw cap and then sprinkle by very gently tapping the side holding the cap at an angle. Make sense?! Hope that helps!
I also use a lot of disco dusts. For a subtle effect I dry brush the dust onto fondant but mostly I do the same as Bonjovi Babe, either sprinkle while the icing is wet and for fondant a very fine mist of water and sprinkle on. I usually load a dry brush with the dust and gently tap it across the top of where I want the dust to go.
