I've read that some people use this for cake boards. Is it just the stuff you buy at Micheal's....it's like two layers of posterboard with foam inside? Is that it or are you talking about something else? Is it strong, do you have to double up on it??

That is foamcore. I get mine at Michael's when they are on sale. They come in 2 thicknesses - 3/16" and 1/2". I use the thinner one on 6-7" cakes and the 1/2" on bigger cakes.

Yes it's what you buy at Michael's. They come in 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch thickness. You can double them up depending on how heavy your cake is. I usually wrap mine with scrapbook paper and then shrink wrap. HTH.
