can someone direct me to the link where it tells how much batter per pan?
I am making a 3 tier birthday cake tonight and I need to know how many cake mixes to buy. Also How much buttercream icing will I need. I am probably going to do a 10, 8 and 6. icon_smile.gif

Do you have a Wilton yearbook? There is a table in there that has about how much batter and icing you'll need for whatever pan.

10 inch - 6 c batter and about 5 c icing

8 inch - 3½ c batter and 4 c icing

6 inch - 2 c batter and 3 c icing.

Helpful hint - i take a sharpie and write on teh bottom of my cake pans how much batter it takes, oven temp and baking time. I'd never remember otherwise!

Writing on the bottom of the pan is a great idea. Thanks for that great advise. I think I am going to Sams to buy the icing. Too much icing to stand and make tonight. The cake is for tomorrow icon_cry.gif

You can also look on the wilton website. Just go to cake, then cake preperation, then scroll down and click batter amounts....theres charts for 2" and 3" pans, wedding or party.

i like the idea of writing the amount you need on the bottom of the pans also...

Miriel-Thanks for posting this! I am printing it to put on the inside of my kitchen cupboard for easy reference. I had always wondered if there were guidelines.
