I have never made a wedding cake but I was thinking... Do you need to put a dowel under the wedding topper? If it has any weight it seems that it would need support?

Could some of you expierenced wedding cake makers let me know. I may have a wedding cake to do in the near future icon_smile.gif!
Thanks!!!

Depends on the topper. The vast majority of brides today use either a fresh flower arrangement or a monogram. The monograms are light and work fine. Ditto the flowers. The only thing with fresh flowers is to make sure the florist arranges them in either an igloo (small plastic container) or does a hand tied bouquet. If it's the hand tied, then you have one chance to plunge it into the cake and get it centered, set take your time to "set up your shot."

I see maybe 1 or 2 of the figurines per year, out of the 90 wedding cakes I do. A few are heavy enough that the cake needs to be supported to accommodate their weight.

If it has significant weight, I do dowel and place a cake board cut to fit under it to protect both it and the cake.
