Where do you all get lace molds? They seem so expensive, yet they look really nice on the side of a cake I think. Although some of them I wonder about how they will end up looking...... does anyone have a favorite lace mold they use a lot?

Also - impression stuff - I love when I see the little intricate work on cakes that look like lace or tiny china dish patterns or even scroll work - but I don't like the Wilton scroll impression things. Does anyone have a good recommendation for where to get these too?

Impression molds, why not make your own, make an impression say from anything that takes you fancy and if it does'nt work out start over again without any waste. The products called POLYMORPH it's non toxic, its white plastic beads but once you put them into water at 65c they turn soft so you can mold them or use them for impression, just stick a paper clip into each impression so when you are pressing onto icing you can pull it off again.
It's an english product but I am sure you could get it anywhere.

Have you tried looking for the cheap vinyl lace doilles or place mats. You can then lay the pattern over the fondant and use a sponge or brush then .dab royal icing over the pattern, carefully remove it and you have a very pretty pattern, it will dry hard. Or you can buy those pretty stencils at the craft store.

I'VE SEEN NICK LODGE ROLL OF PIECE OF LACE & SUGARPASTE THROUGH A PASTA ROLLER TO GET AN IMPRESSION. YOU WILL NEED TO GREASE OR DUST THE SUGARPASTE TO KEEP THEM FROM STICKING TOGETHER.

Man why did I buy a pasta roller thing and then use it for clay??? icon_cry.gif I don't even do clay stuff anymore........ do you think I could ever clean it well enough to use it for fondant? Or is it shot once you've used it for clay even 1-2 times?

I think you could clean it but i would be sure to grease it good before using it for sugarpaste.

I like the idea of making your own molds - I think that's awesome. For now though - does anyone have a fav. mold that they use for lace? There are so many but I always wonder how they turn out looking..... any particular favs you can recommend or that your customers seem to really like?
