Ok two jumping off points..

With your theme, Where memories begin, I immediately thought of a young couple taking their small child to the fair for the first time. The wonderment of seeing everything through a childs eyes. Bright colors, prizes to win, and lots of cotton candy and candy apples.

Second thought was of the new Wilton separators, that you can put pictures in. Maybe check your liberary for newspaper pictures of the fair through the years. I think that would be neat and the fair judges would "eat it up " so to speak.

Well you could do Barbra or how about a scrapbook type of cake with little fondant things like lock of hair, toy ring things like that.

You also could do a book with a relationship theme as well. I will think about this one and see if I can think of something better, right now I am still to tired to think.

Oh yea you could see if you can find pic's of the first fair there and make something out of that, see if you can find a picture of the first tickets and re make them as a little side thing.

Is this memories of the Fair or your memories in general?

My first memories of the fair was the carousel, cracker jacks, corn dogs and cotton candy. I like the idea of the ticket stubs too.

Of course, here in Texas, we have BIG TEX greeting everyone as they come into the fair.
Do you have a state "mascot" for your fair?

I think that they mean the fair is "where memories begin"....

so I'm guessing they mean memories that are created at the fair...some good ideas so far!

Keep 'em coming! icon_smile.gif Thanks!!

now that I have spent time reviewing information about your fair I do think that they would like it to revolve around the fair. They have other contest that revolve around stories of the fair. Amazingly enough I can not find any old pictures, I was not sure if I could find any from 1878 (i think) when the fair started but I could not find any that pre dated the 1980's. I was hoping to see if I could find some to help you. I did however cross the old stories that were posted on the fair web site and they decribe some of the things at the fair. They are not dated but they do give an idea of time. you might take a page from them and make a cake with a story of the first time you went or your children. you may make a letter on teh cake itself with a park set up around it. kind of like the pic below.

My fondest memories of fairs is getting cotton candy. I would wait all summer for the local fireman's fair to get cotton candy. It also something I remember fondly about my dates to the fair with my hubbie. We always bought a bag of cotton candy (pink & blue) to share and argued over which tasted better!! LOVE is so much fun!!!!

Ditto, about the cotton candy. My daughter and her friends go CRAZY over cotton candy. I think that is the main reason they want to go to fairs (next is the rides). It might be neat to incorporate it somehow into your design. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Cheers, from

Okay...how bout this...and you can help me expand this idea or tell me it's just dumb! icon_smile.gif

Since I know I can make flower pots icon_redface.gif and I like the phrase "planting seeds".. ...what about somehow incorporating the two things...

Planting seeds of memories...to go along with where memories grow...

I thought of having seed packets that maybe have a picture(see below...maybe the animal, candy, etc) and the name of the flower is "Memories" , "Fun" and maybe "Love" too...maybe with some little seeds out on the board...

And then...somehow...having some things growing like cotton candy(maybe on big green stems)....I don't know...that's as far as I have gotten with that thought, I guess! icon_razz.gif

Maybe since it's Where memories grow....the pot could somehow be the fairgrounds....maybe have a huge pot with little areas of the fair...like the food rows would have little food items sprouting and the 4H stuff could have little animals growing...get it ?? You know the little sticks that mark what's growing...I could mark them with "fun" love" memories" etc...???

OKAY...honest opinion...is this dumb?? If you don't think it's dumb...wanna help me figure out what and how to do the rest??

TIA!!!!!!! thumbs_up.gif

I like the giant flower pot with the fair inside. I think that would be really neat, very original.

Two comments- one, do any of you who do cakes/cookies for fall fair ever get orders from that?
I dont want any orders I guess if I submit, cause I'm not ready to run a business yet, just wondering though for future lol

Our fall fair theme is similar- has to do with grownups and kids both though- kids building memories for the future and grownups going to the fair to reminisce and cherish memories of past- they didnt really spell it out clearly- I'm kinda PO'ed about that LOL- was actually brainstorming entering a cake and stumbled on this thread LOL how convenient.

However I'm stumped how to do memories of the past and future memories created als0

will keep mulling it over and put some ideas down here for you if I think of anything lol

I can't wait till next year!! Hoping to get another one in...maybe even a few! I'm just not sure what to do with it now...??? I thought I'd ask around here to see what others do with their models?? Hubby thought I could just throw it away...ha! I went ahead and set him straight on that! icon_smile.gif sigh...but then again...it's gathering dust on kitchen counter! icon_smile.gif Who knows?? Anyway..thanks again! Glad you like it! Shari icon_smile.gif
