I am looking into getting a mini cake pan set, but I am not quite sure which ones I want. What would you recommend? I know I do not want the wilton set that is all one piece, I'd like to have each size pan separate. or I found these...
Have any of you used this type of pan before? Comes in 1 1/4, 2, 3 inch round or square.
I have a set of those (3 different size rounds) and only used it once. Cakes bake well in them, had no problem releasing the cake from the cavities.
I find it is easier though to just bake a rectangular cake, freeze, and cut using round cookie cutters. If you really want a mini set, I'd recommend the alloy ones from Squires Kitchen that SCS recommends. They are a little pricey but in one pan, you can bake several cakes at a time. I've seen round, heart and square minis from them.
I know I have seen sets of the mini cake pans...does anyone know offhand as to where I can order from? I need these by the first week of July.
Country kitchen has the individual sets, square, round, heart or you can buy them all in one set like here. They're pretty good on fast delivery and good customer service too.

Michaels carries a set of wilton mini pans, I think 5 inches and under, not sure how small you want the rounds. But you could also try bisquit cutters since the cutters are extra thick. I have a set that I bought on ebay 5, 4, 3 and 2 inch rounds. I have since seen them in all the cake decorating specialty shops (party cakes -n- things and also at Wine and Cake Hobby) and they cost around 23.00. Hope this helps!
The set that I bought on ebay was actual cake decorating pans, not bisquit cutters.
I have these mini pans and use them in a fun way. I coat each of the pans with choc. then put in the freezer. Then, I put in a little layer of buttercream and a small piece of cake, usually cupcakes, because that is what I have on hand or a piece of pound cake. Then I put more choc. to coat the bottom and back in the freezer. When I pop them out I have the cutest little cake. I put the cakes together with either a little melted choc or a little buttercream to stick them together. I usually put a small shell border on each layer. These pans work great for this and I love the shiny surface of the little cakes.
I have a great Magic Line set of rounds that are 2", 3", 4", and 5". I think the smallest square they have is 4.5", but I could be wrong!

I haven't used those before. I would be interested in hearing from someone that has used them in the past. I am planning on using some cutters and just use a square cake.
