I just went though a batch of tospy turvy cake pictures. Now I'm intrigued as to how they are made. Anyone got suggestions for a newbie? icon_eek.gif I want to try and make one. Chrysb

Check out the article on How to make one right here on Cake Central's articles section! It has step by step instructions AND photo's too! Good luck if you try to make one! I'm dying to try to make one too...I haven't gotten brave enough yet!...lol.

I read from someone else that Colette doesn't stack her cakes the way they are stacked in the tutorial on this site. Maybe someone with one of her books can let you know how she does it.

I did a topsy turvy cake (see my pix) but instead of making the cakes un-level. I made the bases unlevel icon_confused.gif . Much easier I thought. I bought 3 of Collette's books and it still seemed way to hard icon_cry.gif .

My instructor puts something under the bottom of one side of her cake pan so the top of the cake is off kilter. You still have to slice into the cake on one side to add the next tier but it does save time and cake by not having to cut the top off at an angle.

Hi! I did the Collette method as shown in her book, Cakes To Dream On. Section called MAKING CAKES CROOKED ON PURPOSE. It uses wedges of styrofoam and doweling to make the non-carved cakes be out of whack! Check out the purple K-State cake in my gallery. This is the cake I used her directions on. It was very stable when I was finished...but I will admit that it made me breathe heavily when I was transporting it!

It's fun and very satisfying to do! She's very good at getting her instructions down on paper.....easy to understand.

Good Luck!
