I'm thinking of using fondant pearls and I've seen those big molds you can buy to make a string of them - but what if you want individual ones? Like sometimes people put them on the sides of the cake in a little design.... how do you make sure they are all the same size? Does it just take forever???
I think that Earlenecakes.com has a little tutorial on this. Check out her site. Basically you roll out your fondant and use one of your round tips to cut the desired circumfrance. Roll them into balls in your palm, let them dry a bit then roll them in some pearl dust. Store them until you are ready to use.
I just finished a wedding cake with approximately 2000+ idividual pearls on it. I rolled them all using Earlene's guidelines and it worked great. They are very easy, yet time-consuming. I actually would roll my fondant, cut a ton of them and wrap them in plastic wrap. I would then take some out at a time and rolled most of them while watching TV in the evenings. Time goes by very fast. They end up looking beautiful.
Here is a link for the instruction, I hope it helps!![]()

I bought the mold and don't like it as well as doing them by hand. Try a few. They are easier and faster than you think.
I make mine by hand as you can always see the ridges on ones done in a mould. I have perfected the art of rolling two at one time - one in each hand. Just sit in front of the tv and drop them in a little tub of pearl dust when you're done. Give them a shake and then they're covered in dust and look much better than the mould ones.
IMHO, I think the pearls made in silicone molds come out looking better. I have done them both ways. Dont get me wrong they are both beautiful I just prefer the silicone mold. I have also tried the hard plastic pearl maker molds and for sure dont care for those. I can definetly see the seam on those. But then again thats just my opinion ![]()
