I'm a newbie and am to make a pastoral anniversary cake with Ganache this weekend. I'm totally BLANK when it comes to ideas! I did a "ganache" search on CC but it only pulled up 5 pics and then when I click on "see more pictures" it takes you to the gallery which does not have a specific place for ganache.

So....would any of you who have done a cake with ganache (on the outside - not as a filling) be willing to post yours on this thread so I can get some ideas!?

Here is what I have in mind so far but am definitely up for different suggestions:
WASC for the cake
Milky Way filling (that you buy on the peanut butter aisle)
Iced in ganache

Questions:
1. Do I need to crumb coat with BC before pouring on the ganache?
2. Can you write with BC on TOP of the ganache? Will it slide off? I am thinking if I wait until it sets that it will be fine, but wanted to make sure.
3. What would YOU do if you were in my shoes?

Thanks in advance!!

Here's two of mine. The first one has melted white choc drizzled on top.

I'm sure you'll get MUCH BETTER ideas and pics from other CC'ers. I've only done two and these are the ones!

I did do a thin BC coating before pouring the ganache.

Thanks so much! Those look scrumptious!

Anyone else care to share what you have done with ganache?

Thanks!

For your questions:
Questions:
1. Do I need to crumb coat with BC before pouring on the ganache?
I usually have a crumb coat of chocolate mousse filling, then pour the ganache over that. But I have done ganache without the crumb coat, but the cake was well chilled.

2. Can you write with BC on TOP of the ganache? Will it slide off? I am thinking if I wait until it sets that it will be fine, but wanted to make sure.

yes, it will be fine.

3. What would YOU do if you were in my shoes?

I would use all vanilla instead of the almond for the WASC. It may clash with the peanut butter milky way flavor. Otherwise your combo sounds yummy!!

Thanks, Rezzy!! I really appreciate this!

And - I agree (and was planning to do it already) that almond would need to be replaced with vanilla.

Again, thanks so much!! Your cakes look yummy!!

Anyone else?

Wow, Newtodecorating!!! These look yummy!! These are awesome!

Thanks a million!

Question for ya, though: Did you pipe the borders on the birthday cakes (the bottom 2 cakes) with ganache? If so, what did you do to get it to piping consistency?

Thanks again! You all make this place AWESOME!!

Yes both borders are ganache. I use ChefTaz recipe from here and the only thing you have to do to it to pipe it is stick it in the fridge for an hour or so. If you leave it in there to long it sets up to much---but makes GREAT truffles!!

another with whipped milk chocolate ganache, and a white chocolate wrap. the whipped ganache is not poured, its spread with a spatula like bc.

Hey I see you have a starburst rose in your gallery....The roses on my last two links are made of tootsie rolls. I thought it went well with the ganache. You would do them the same way.

I saw those! They are beautiful! Mine was a quickie as we rode down the road, but it was still fun. Hopefully I can make mine look like yours instead of that Starburst one I made. icon_wink.gif

Thanks so much for your help! I can't wait to get to work on this! icon_smile.gif

Okay, this made me laugh out loud. Thank you for such a nice compliment! I want SO badly to learn this cake decorating thing and turn out pretty work but so far I haven't been able to convince myself that this is really my niche. HOWEVER, I'm not giving up just yet simply because it is so much stinkin' fun!! LOL!

Thanks again for your very kind words - and for the laugh. icon_smile.gif
