Hi all! I am trying a FBCT for the first time, making a Jean Luc Picard cake for someone's birthday (their request). The cake is going to be a rectangle with the Captains' bust on it...how big can I really go with these things? I was looking around online, I saw the tutorial which is so helpful but it seems that the examples I have seen are all for a relatively small character. My tranfer would be about, 10, 12"? Is that a bad idea? Should I try something else instead? Or maybe do the transfer in two, the head and the bust being seperate?

Thanks so much in advance!! I am totally new to cake decorating and have already learned so much from this website!!

I did a transfer that was for a large sheetcake. It was retangle and I did the entire top as a fbct. Just make sure you lay your buttercream thick enough.

I had the transfer frozen on a large serving tray. I then laid my cake on that and used another serving tray for on top of the bottom of the cake. Then quickly I flipped it all over so the fbct was now the top of the cake. After if thawed a went around the edges of the cak and incorporated that into the rest of the frosting so it blended with the sides. You can see my fbct from my pictures it is the Dory fish from Nemo.

Good luck

Oh but wait, how do you not mess up the icing on the cake itself??

Don't forget to put wax paper or cellophane over your picture before you do it. Also make sure that it is taped down well and there are not any creases in the paper, they will show. After you put it on your cake you can do some touch ups with a small craft brush. I think they look better when you can add some decorations on top of the transfer for a 3-D effect. (Thats just my opinion)
