Hey there!

I have a wedding cake coming up in two weeks. I saw a thread the other day that said ferns were poisonous to put on a cake.

The cake I am doing is supposed to be covered in Gerber Daisies. The bride said she would order the flowers and get them to me. (Mistake number 1)

I guess she decided she didn't want to spend that much on flowers, because she called me to tell me that she ordered just a few of the daisies, but a ton of "greenery" for me to use on the cake. When I asked her what "greenery" she ordered, she told me fresh ferns and eucalyptus.

I told her about the ferns being poisonous, but I'm not sure about the eucalyptus. Is it ok to stick that in the cake?

What do you guys suggest?

I don't really know if those are bad or not, but you could call a florist shop and ask them and you could wrap the stems in plastic wrap. Just an idea. Good luck

ok go to the CC home page and at the very bottom at the end of the Articles section click onto more articles link. There it will bring you to a menu of articles. Scroll down several boxes till you find the one that shows flowers to put on a cake. It shows all the different kinds of flowers and some greenery that is ok to put on a cake ( Shows Boston Ferns are ok ) I hope this will asnwer your qestions, good luck thumbs_up.gif

Just call her and ask her if she had mentioned to the florist that the flowers and greenery were to be used on food. Betting she didn't. most florists can provide items that haven't been treated w/pesticides and that are not known to cause reactions. I'd add a contract addendum for th ebride to sign that you are not responsible for any health issues relating to the use of materials SHE is providing to decorate the cake.
