My parents are celebrating their 30th Anniversary, and my mom wants me to make them a cake. Here is a link to the picture -- it's where they got married. Any help would be great. If this is possible, how could I do this, and would fondant or buttercream be better?

Thanks

too funny... this is right near where I live. When I was little, I used to call it Cinderella's Castle.

I'd start by looking through the gallery for castle cakes for ideas. There are some really, really amazing ones! Then you can modify it to look like the Temple.

good luck! Can't wait to see the finished product!!

if you plan on making the cake to look like that then i have no clue. if you are going to make it as a topper for the cake i would use pastilage and make that.

I live right near here! When I was young, I thought it was Disneyworld when you came over the hill on 495!

You can get temple cookie molds and press fondant in them to put on the side of a cake if you don't want to try the 3d cake idea.

I agree - it really is just a castle cake. Think of it as a central rectangular cake with pillars at the corners.

will you have to travel with cake?

The main part can be cake - cut to shape of building. for the corner peices I would make out of gumpaste - glue together (stick to cake with royal icing)

The side of cake - you can make rods of gumpaste and glue to side of cake.

If traveling assebles their corners their - so breakage will happen and make a few extra. You never what can happen.

Their are no windown so gumpaste will be the way to go at least for me.

Hope that make sense.

here's an image that helps visualize the full shape of the temple.

bird's eye view of Washington LDS Temple

when seen from this viewpoint, it's really a simple shape that can be easily accomplished by carving stacked sheet cakes. use the scraps to build up the towers. to get the spire one the tower...well you do have to dowel those towers to get them to stay up -- so just use extra long dowels that stick up out of cake to be the spires on the towers

i'd cover whole thing in crusting butter cream for smooth base and then add strips of fondant to get the ridges in the walls and towers.

the angel on the main spire will probably have to be hand molded.

here's a second set of images from The Model Bank that may help too:

You all have made me so happy. I love hearing that people have seen this temple. I personally have never seen it, so your ideas are helpful.

I do plan on traveling with the cake. I apprecaite that idea!

Where do you get temple cookie molds? That would be interesting.

I would love castle ideas. I hadn't even thought of that.

The only thing I thought of was the get the cake pan that was the shape (it's 5 sided) and then bake a 9x13 and cut pillars from that. Then somehow connect the pillars to the side of the cake.

I would love any more feedback! Thank you for your help!

I would think you can get an 11x15 and cut in half and stack.. (very Big) and make the ends out of foam or card board (towers).. and just attach to the cake with royal icing (if covering with fondant) or buttercream. . You can use the Line Impression Mat to get the sides to look like the temples.. I think you can do it with Fondant.. Good Luck!!
