Anyone here in Louisiana, working from HOME, and licensed???
I'm wanting to convert my garage into a kitchen, so that I'm not working inside my house (because I have pets).
I am trying to find out any rules/regulations that someone my have already faced, and get any/all advice that is available. Thanks in advance!
I'm in west baton rouge parish but still just in the category of a cake now and then from my kitchen. I have 4 years left until retirement from LSU and then we'll see. I have pets too. My hubby is working on plans for an outdoor "cake house" as he calls it for my sister and I.
We're going to Chicago in 2 weeks to take a few Wilton classes there and we cant wait. Right now its just a fun hobby but once the cake house goes up we'll see about licensing and taking the next step.
Hi,
I'm also in Baton Rouge although in the east parish. I looked into getting a licensed kitchen but am probably not going to do it. What I found out is we need a 3 comp. sink, hand sink, mop sink, drain in floor, washable walls and a few other things I can't remember. It has to be a separate kitchen but can be attached to the house as long as it has a separate entrance. I think that's right. It's hard to get consistent information from them because you also have to check with the fire marshall and other departments. I was told as long as people don't come in to eat like a resturaunt then you dont need a bathroom. You also need to make sure your neighbors are ok with it and you can't have a sign or a lot of traffic. You could call the health dept. and they'll send a list. Too bad we're not all close to each other or we could rent a space to share. ![]()
I am in St. Landry Parish, in a rural area. You need to check with your parish's health dept. They were very helpful to me. Your kitchen can be attached to your house, but with a separate entrance. As far as permits, all I needed was the State fee ($100/yr.). I had to have 3 compartment sink, separate mop sink - away from food area, proper sewerage treatment plant, etc. However, this all depends if you are in a city or in a rural area. You need to talk to your local health dept. They will give you everything you need to know. Good Luck!
