I've only been decorating a couple of months and wanted to attempt to make the 3d wilton bear mold. I've never done a 3d mold. I've read the instructions and it says to use a "heavier" cake--can anyone tell me how to doctor a cake mix to get a pound cake type cake that would work in this mold?

Thank you

I use regular cake mix done to the package directions with all my 3d pans and they work fine. Don't use white but you could do chocolate or yellow. I use BC only, I have trouble with pilsbury and can't get many flavors of DH around here.
Look in my pics, I have a couple of the bear in there.

Hi newtobaking:: First, welcome to CC. I see you're new to the site. Secondly, to help you, there is a recipe on this site called "Durable cake for 3D & wedding cakes" I found it very good for 3D cakes. Sorry, I don't know how to post the link to the recipe, but just do a search under recipes & you should be able to find it.

I have been taught that when you do a 3D figure you can add 2 Tbs. of flour to the mix to give it that extra staying power. Has never failed for me yet (although I do admit that I have done some without the extra flour and they have done fine as well).

Good luck and post pictures!!! Welcome to CC- you are gonna love it here!
