Can anyone help me figure out how to make some small ladybugs out of buttercream?

Thanks.

Hmm depends on your definition of "small." I'd say fondant/MMF would still be easier unless you really have steady hands. I'd try a dot of black for the body then use maybe tip 352 for the wings in red. Then take maybe tip 1 to make the black dots on the wings.

How small? You could use tip 3 to make a small ball and flatten with finger dipped in cornstarch. Then use tip #1 for black details.

I think I'd pipe a black line with tip 3 or 4, but not a line, more like a shell, but not a shell, maybe call it a comma that doesn't curve. Pipe orange with tip 4 or larger in two blobs next to each other ... leaving the top and bottom of the black showing. Then take a tip two or one and pipe black dots and antennae.

I use red m'm's for lady bugs. They are a natural, and then I get to eat all of the other colors in the bag!. I take tip 2 and do the dots and the little head and the line down the middle with choc. icing. In a pinch you can use the black food markers to put the detail on the m'ms. Check out my picture of the sunflower cupcake in the gallery to see my lady bug.

Don't forget you can freeze your BC bodies and then put them on the cake where you want them and then ice them in the black. It works with roses, I don't see why it wouldn't work with little lady bugs. Good luck!

I heard in another thread about dusting a little powdered sugar or cornstarch under the object to prevent color bleeding. thumbs_up.gif

Those ladybugs are adorable. What a clever idea. I put the picture in my favorites so I could remember it some day!

Thank you Vienneaus , I figure why invent the wheel, a red m'm is an easy ladybug. Hope you can use it some time!
