I do not decorate cakes. Well I have maybe a couple of times - literally 2 times and they were very basic designs. I make decorated cookies all the time and that is what I'm good at.

I've been requested to make 2 - 13x9 inch cakes for a party this saturday (very casual barbeque) and I want to know how much to charge the woman. One will be a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting & one will be a chocolate cake with buttercream. She has requested no special design so I need to think up something simple. I really have no idea what to charge. Help!! Help with design suggestions also. My flower making skills are not too good.

I charge $25 dollars for a 2 layer 9" buttercream cake or a 13 x 9 buttercream cake. All my cakes are usually for people I work with and they have no problem with the price. It's very easy for me to do the buttercrream flowers and borders and really doesn't take me a lot of time but they look really nice. writing also...

maybe a drizzle of chocolate ganache dripping from the top down the sides and shaved chocolate on top. fresh berries- they are in season...strawberries, blueberries , raspberries...., dipped berries? think of simple, no decorations, just mouthwatering ways to present the cake. i would charge ingredients- then AT LEAST double it...or figure your cost plus X amount of dollars per hour for your time.
