What do you use if you have a large cake, or a shaped cake that won't fit the largest cake boards you can get at Michael's? Do you order specialty ones online? Or are there any secrets out there I should know about icon_wink.gif

I cut out foam core board and cover in foil to the size needed. Use at least a 1/2" thick for stability. I have heard here that some cut out masonite board to the size needed and cover. This would be very stable. HTH

I collect corrugated carboard boxes (especially case of anything that held glass bottles, which I find are the strongest) and I just began using foam core board as well. I use a razor knife or X-acto knife to cut it to the shape/size I need.

Where do you buy your foam core boards? I get mine at Michaels but it would be nice to find some in bulk with lower prices.

I have found it at the $.99 store in different colors! I also have had my hubby cut plywood for heavier cakes.

I get mine at Michael's too and stock up when they are on sale. They just make good and sturdy cake boards and I don't have to worry about not having a certain size on hand since I custom cut it.

Thanks for the replies! In what section in Michael's would you find it? I've never heard of it before icon_redface.gif

If they are so big they won't fit on cardboards available in the supply shops, then I take it they are heavy, too. I went to Lowe's and bought sheet of wood/plywood type of things and had them cut them down to size - they do it for free. The cost is next to nothing, so if I dont' get them back, it's no big deal, or you can tack on a cost for the special size board.

I order cake boards, cake drums, and cake boxes from www.countrykitchensa.com. They have a much larger variety of sizes and shapes than Michael's.

I have found foam core cheaper than Michael's at office supply stores also.
