icon_redface.gif I know this is going to sound stupid, but when they are talking two layers that is torting - right? Or is it two cake on top to make one? If it is the torting do you charge for two cakes if you do stack to make a taller cake? icon_redface.gificon_confused.gif

torting is when you slice one layer of cake into two thinner layers and add a filling in the middle. when you double layer and torte you end up with 4 one inch layers of cake and 3 layers of filling. i only make this type of cake, so i charge accordingly. i think it looks and tastes better to do cakes this way, so i don't ever just make 1 layer. does that answer your question?

So if I want a taller cake should I charge for 2 cakes (ie 2 8x2 round) or one? That is were I confused - I guess.

TIA

many charge by the serving...

so if the rate is $2/serving

and the size cake serves 10

then the cake is $20

Ok, now is that with two cake mixes or one? I have only done one so far. Hopefully I will have all these little questions answered soon icon_smile.gificon_redface.gif

i believe one cake mix will make 2 8x2's, so it would be one. but if you were making 2 10x2's you would need two. when you double layers you get more servings out of a cake, so if you charge per serving, yes it would cost more. on a double layer serving sizes for me are 1.5x2x4 for party and on a single layer 2x2x2 for party. i hope this is helping and not making it more confusing for you! icon_biggrin.gif

To determine the number of servings, use the size and shape of your cake pans and look it up on this chart: http://www.cakecentral.com/article14-Cake-Baking-Cutting--Serving-Guide---2-in-Deep-Pans.html
