Hi Everyone,
I would like to get some ideas as to where you store your cookie cutters and if any of you have some kind of system to keep them organized. Right now I have them all in a plastic bag and within that bag I have them in zip-locs somewhat organized by theme but this isn't working for me. Also, all of my supplies are on shelves in the garage, but that's not too organized either. I was thinking maybe one of those pantries from Lowes or Home Depot and the cookie cutters in the plastic shoe box containers labeled alphabetically. If anyone has done this and it works or hasn't worked let me know. Also, if you have a better system please give me some details. As you can see I am not the most organized person in the world and I need some help before I take over the garage with my cookie stuff.
Thanks icon_smile.gif

There is no rhyme or reason to my cutters. They are all in a bowl (whoops, two bowls because I have TOO many) under the island in my kitchen. My grand-daughter loves to take them out and pla with them so I just leave them there and then pick them up at least 500 times a day. LOL Oh well, some day she will use them correctly with grandma.

Wittnitt, you have brought back some fond memories for me....My mom used to keep her cutters (she had hundreds) in a huge drawer under our wall ovens. I used to love being in the kitchen with her, so to keep me from being underfoot she would sit me in front of that drawer where I would play with those cookie cutters for hours icon_smile.gif .

I just keep my cutters in boxes in my baking pantry. Not very organized, but I can usually find what I'm looking for.

I have used them as 'border paper' in my kitchen ... I have hundreds of cutters and having them on display in my kitchen is wonderful because I can find everything easily and when customers come over they can pick what they would like. I'll take a picture and post it some time. Got to say though, my DH wasn't very happy because I asked him to hang them all as he's 6'4". lol He says that I'm not allowed to get anymore. lol

That's why I try to keep mine out of sight- the less he knows the better icon_lol.gif ! And if I tell him "I need ___" he can't say "but you already have 20 of those". icon_twisted.gif

I don't have enough to make organizing them worth it so I have mine in a basket. I'm working on it though. icon_lol.gif

Except for my vintage cutters which are in a "gigantic" repeat "gigantic" icon_redface.gif jar on my kitchen counter and all the other hundreds and hundreds of cookie cutters are in "Boot Boxes" may I repeat "Boot Boxes" icon_redface.gif under my bed.

There would be no way to organize these cookie cutters. There are far, far too many of them!!!!!!!!!!! icon_eek.gif

"Of course I could get a shelf system like the ones at shoe stores and line them with shoe boxes with all my cutters by theme. OMG - I need help!!!!!!"

I've been collecting copper cutters for a while now, they started to pile up. I originally started with a shoe-box sized Rubbermaid bin, then added on a shoe box to that and finally had to upgrade to a bigger Rubbermaid bin, I'd say it's about 18" long, 12"Wide and 12" Deep, got it at Lowes or Home Depot.

The only organizing I did, because they're mostly HUGE ones, is to put the plastic and regular metal ones in a baggie in the bin, so they don't get lost, they're quite a bit smaller than the copper ones.

I really like your idea about the cabinet with the bins inside. If you really have that many, it's probably a great way to get them tucked away neatly.

I've thought about using mine as kitchen decoration too! But haven't gotten around to it yet.

I asked that same question a few weeks ago.

Best answer and now I have 2 the 7 drawer roller cart at Walmart - $21 and well worth it! If I get the camera out I will take pics of how great it is!

For a while I had a large clear plastic storage container with ziplock bags separating the cutters by seasons/holidays/shapes/letters etc.

Now that my collection has grown even more, I have individual storage containers with 2 gallon size ziplock bags each containing a separate season/holiday ect. in each container.

On the outside of each storage box I have labeled which two categories are in the container.

This works very well for me icon_smile.gif

I have a lot of cookie cutters about 250 . I bought plastic storage bins about 12" x 6" and 24 x 6" .

I separated them into themes and catagories and then labelled the outside of the container with the theme or categorie and then inside I put a list of what was in the container. So once I find the theme or catagorie I can check the list to see if what I want is in there. It works pretty well but takes a little time to set it up which is worth it .
Takes a lot less time to find what I need.

I like your idea about hanging them in the kitchen but my kitchen is kinda small and there is very little wall space. Besides DH would shoot me for sure. He is pretty patient but I try to keep my cake stuff organized as much as possible. Getting more and more difficult though because of this obsession I keep buying more.

Mine are in a Sterilite lidded container shaped like a trash can (but it isn't a trash can!). I will be adding a fridge to my store room this week, so I need to clean it out, so maybe I will organize then.

Hey Kathy,

Sounds like your system would work great for me. I wanted to state that you're on the pathway to my obession, (250 cookie cutters is really nothing except a good beginning!) icon_biggrin.gif

It would take me weeks and weeks to organize my cutters. Can ya come over and help me out? icon_eek.gif

Literally boot boxes under my bed. I have so many, I have forgotten half of them and probably bought them again. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Hey TipTop 57

I would love to come over but I think you live too far from me. If my system would work for you go for it. I know it takes time but the time put out is the time saved when you buy more or need to find a cookie cutter.
I have all mine listed on the computer as well and printed out a sheet and put them in a page protecter so I can scan the sheet to see what I have that relates to what the customer would like.

Glad to help
Kathy

Kathy:

icon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gif Wow a computer spread sheet for the contemporary cookie cutters - who'd of thunk it.

I do have a spreadsheet for the antique cookie cutters "for insurance purposes and to purchase the ones I didn't already own", but for the new modern cookie cutters just to organize myself geez that would take me years to complete. icon_eek.gificon_eek.gif And a list in the box also. WOWWIE way too organized.

I think a year long project is just beginning.......

Wow tiptop 57 how many cookie cutters do you think you have?

500 or more? If you just take a few hours every so often and have a couple of tables set up with labelled plastic storage bins on it I bet you could zip through quit a few in no time. Before you know it you'll be organized.

Kathy
