Plug The Hole Made By A Center Dowel In Fondant Cake??

I am planning to stack a fondant cake and I was wondering how do you plug the hole from the center dowel? I am putting something on top, but it will not go directly in the center. I guess I could add something there if I had to....Is there any difference with stacking fondant vs. buttercream? I was hoping it might be a little easier....
stack all the layers together EXCEPT for your top on. Measure the center dowel to be long enough to go into the top layer but short enough not to go though it all the way.
Make a hole in the center of the top layer's cake board befor putting the cake on it (make it large - the size of a nickel or a quarter). put your cake on and cover with fondant.
Put your regular dowels in place to support the top layer (picutre that you'll have a couple of them sunk into the cake per usual, and the center one is going to be sticking up). CAREFULLY place your final layer onto the stacked cakes, making sure the dowel goes through the center hold you've cut into the cake board of your top layer. Remember, the dowel is supposed to be short enough that it won't go all the way through the top layer.
Does this make sense?
That makes total sense! Thank you! Does the dowel go through the bottom of the cake (top tier) easily when you do it that way? Do I need to shapen that end at all or will it just poke right through? Thanks a lot for your advice, I will definitely do that!
okay thanks, I am definitely going to do that!
