What do you add to boxed cake mixes to make it your own? Or moisten, etc.?

Very curious!

I use the Pillsbury cake mix and I just add 2 tablespoons of vanilla caramel creamer (powder). And instead of the water, I add milk. HTH! icon_biggrin.gif

Actually the Cake Mix Dr. is probably a good book for you to check out as it has tons of recipes where Cake mixes are Dr'd.

I love adding the pudding mix to the cake it really gives you a chance to change the flavor of the cake and it makes it a lot moister and more of a dense cake you will notice a difference right away just in the batter.

I add both a box of instant pudding and also take 1/3 of the water away and add Southern Pecan creamer to it.

I use the extender recipe on the site-add sour cream, flour, sugar, egg, vanilla, and baking powder.

I adapt chocolate cake by using coffee for the water (doesn't taste like coffee, only hightens the chocolate flavor.

Or I add any assortments of creamer to make yummy flavors.

I increase the eggs to 4, put an envelope of dream whip, 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup flavored creamer. I also bake at 300 and the cakes rise higher and a little more level.

I use Duncan Hines mixes and add 4 eggs, milk instead of water, a box of pudding, and the recommended oil. Sometimes I'll also add 2 TBSP of powdered coffee creamer depending on the flavour of cake mix.

hmmm interesting- i use coffee in my choc frosting but never tried it in the cake mix-love the idea

my standard recipe is DH mix- add 1 egg and 1 pudding. also love the darn good chocolate cake recipe on cc which adds chips , pudding and sour cream

love the wasc recipe which is based off of a mix

for lemon or lemon poppy seed I start with lemon dh and replace water w/ white grape juice and 1/3 c lemon juice( figures = original liquid quantity) and 1 tsp lemon zest- then poppy seed stirred in or not yumm....

I like using white cake mix and adding 2 c of melted ice-cream and 3 eggs then 2 t of whichever extract I think will enhance the flavor.

Pineapple sherbet with coconut extract and orange sherbet with orange extract make tasty cakes.

To come up with new flavors I'll also try using flavored dry pudding mixes with flavored yogurts (instead of sour cream).

My favorite way is to add 1 package of pudding and about 6 oz sour cream, substitute amaretto for 1/2 the water.
