Sorry, this may end up being a little long and confusing.

I am working on my first paid oder. Was pretty much told to do what I wanted which is great, but I am afraid of going overboard with the cake and making it look a little tacky.

I actually used some gift wrap that I have as the inspiration for this cake icon_lol.gif .

The picture with the flower is actually what I am putting on top of the cake done in fondant. The other picture is actually the other gift wraps I have in the set that coordinate. I am not sure what to do for the sides of the cake or what I should cover the cake board with.

This seems silly as I am asking these questions, but I don't want the cake and the board to look too busy with all the patterns. Not sure if I should put polka dots or small solid color flowers on the sides, or even leave them blank.

TIA for all the help. The order is being delivered Friday night so I am trying to get all the fondant colored and decorations planned in advance.

Thanks,
Melissa

If the top of the cake is going to have the polka dot flower, why not do the stripes or candles on the sides of the cake? Also, you could cover the board in one of the coordinating wrapping papers, covered in clear contact paper. That way everything would go together perfectly!

...just a thought...

Ditto to GMCakes Idea. If you use the flower on top, lines or stripes would look best on the sides. For covering your board, Ditto again. It seems the best way to go for complimenting the Big Flower on top. All you need to do is cordinate the colors. Have Fun icon_smile.gif

I think stripes that match the colors in the gift wrap would look great on the sides of the cake. I love that wrapping paper ... where did you buy it? What a great theme for the cake ... that will be a lot of fun to decorate! Please post pictures when you're done! Good luck! icon_smile.gif

The more I look at the wrapping papers, I'm thinking polka dots for the board!

I have to agree that the polka dots on the cake board and the stripeson the side of the cake would be a really cool idea.

I liked gmcakes idea of doing candles on the side of the cake. I have never done anything with fondant really except make roses and cover a cake so it will be fun to play with it and see if I can make candles.

I just wanted to let everyone know, not sure if all Michael's have this right now, but they had a lot of wrapping papers and ribbon on clearance for $1. I think I bought one of almost everything they had on clearance.
