I am now officially a business and I am choosing not to do character cakes due to the laws. Of course, I just got my first request for a cookie monster cake. Does anyone know where I can purchase a cookie monster edible image so I can do this cake. It is my understanding that if you purchase the image, you can use it since they are getting the royalties from that purchase (someone please correct me if I am wrong!) I have searched the internet for cookie monster images and can't find any. AAGH!

I'm not having much luck finding a cookie monster edible on the web either! Have you considered purchasing a toy or a "kit" to do the cake? (They won't be easy to find either!)

You are also allowed to use toys since you are not recreating a likeness but using one already in existence.

I am unsure of all the laws myself, would it be ok to do a sculpted cake?

no, sculpting is not allowed...not without their permission anyway. That would be recreating a likeness.

Wilton still makes a set of Sesame Street characters that has Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Elmo and Zoey. They are about 1-2" tall and are pretty cute. Otherwise, try Luck's for Edible Images, they make more than anyone, but I don't remember seeing any Cookie Monster, he's just not as popular anymore. Poor Guy!
