Does anyone have ideas for how to "line" ribbon with wax paper (or something else) before wrapping the cake with it? The point being to keep the ribbon from absorbing the greasiness of the icing. I don't want to use fondant. Thanks!!
I adhere the wax paper with a LITTLE bit of piping gel (to the fondant), then put some double sided tape (scotch) to adhere the ribbon to the wax paper. You have to be careful not to play to much with the tape when putting it on the wax paper, as the "wax" paper might over-power the tape, if that makes sense. Hope it helps.
you can also iron the wax paper on to the ribbon. read this several tiems and planning on trying it in two weeks. HTH
I've read this too ... but I don't think the wax paper sticks to the ribbon, just the waxy finish.
I have also heard of greasing the whole ribbon with shortening so that it absorbs grease evenly throughout in the first place.
I have NEVER done either of these methods, so I cannot tell you how well they work.
