Hi

I can't seem to find a Wilton IV (fondant/gumpaste) in my area, none of the shops are doing it in the foreseeable future (and around here, if it aint Wilton it aint being taught) but I really want to learn about using fondant and gumpaste to create sugar flowers and other decorations.

Can anyone give me recommendations for books, videos, product demos, any kind of resources I can avail myself of that will get me on the road to learning this art?

I wanna be Sylvia Weinstock when I grow up icon_lol.gif

Thanks!

Do you have a Micheal's or Hobby Lobby near you? They are usually offering that class at least every other month. If not, start asking at the independent stores around you, if you have them. Maybe they just haven't thought about teaching and don't realize how much interest there is! Otherwise, there is a lot of great information on this site to look through, that's a good start! If you do find the Wilton classes somewhere, Course 3 might be a good start for you. No gumpaste, but a good beginning on fondant, Then the Fondant and Gumpaste class (not really course 4) is a good follow up to that one. Have fun!

I've taken 1-3 already, although when I took 3 it was pre-fondant trend. We have 3 Michaels and 2 AC Moore's within a 40 mile radius of me and none of them have the fondant/gumpaste class on the calendar between now and the end of the year. I have given them all my name and phone number in case they schedule one, all have said they can't get an instructor for it.

So I'm looking for general resources/guides (aside from this site) that can get me started.

Here is a link to a previous thread with a few tips and links in it:

There are heaps of threads about this, but being such a popular topic its so hard to search!! There is a lady on here, aine2 she is great with all the modelling and has a website with tutorials. Here is a link to her profile:

You can get to her website and everything through there.

With books, I guess there are a lot around, but I have Lindy Smith's Celebration Cakes book and she shows a few different things, from memory theres a baby in a blanket and also a bride and groom. She has lots of other good tips in there too about modelling all sorts of stuff.

Hope this helps! Jessica thumbs_up.gif

Thanks! Anyone have anything on doing flowers? I'm not really interested in modelling figures. (sorry icon_redface.gif )
