Welcome to CC, this place is addictive so beware.

MMF which is Marshmallow fondant is very tasty and you make it yourself. Satin Ice Fondant is good also kind of expensive and kind of sweet but does not taste bad. Wilton fondant is the worst fondant of them all, we have a petition going on with them to try and change the recipe but no luck as of yet. Those are the only ones I have tried. There are other but I haven't had a chance to try them. I am pretty sure someone else on here will tell you about them. This is the best place to know anything about caking. icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Yes, you put icing under it. You want to make sure your icing is very smooth too because if it isn't smooth, your fondant will not look smooth either. It's a lot cheaper to make that bought fondant. There are several good recipes in the recipe section here. You can add flavorings to it also as well as coloring. There are so many good articles on rolling it out and applying it to your cake here on CC. I like to roll mine out on a piece of vinyl that I've very lightly coated with shortening. Also, Welcome to CC.....yes, it is very addictive!!!!
