I want to make a piece of chalk and an eraser for a cake I'm doing. Can I use gum paste to do it or do I have to use fondant? I've never used gum paste so I don't know what it's like. Thanks for your help, Kristen

You can use either gumpaste or fondant to do those. If you've worked with fondant, gumpaste techniques are the same, except it dries much faster.

You can also mix the two together. This will give you a product that dries faster than just fondant but not quite as fast as gumpaste which will give you a little more work time with it.

I would use gumpaste, gets really hard and can be made way ahead of time.
Yes it is edible, not great to the tastebuds, unless you use some flavouring, like peppermint.....but i have found most cake decorations are NOT eaten and are simply placed off to the side of the cake when cutting.
