Need Help Asap! What To Use To Carve Oscar Statue?
Decorating By AmandaPanda Updated 28 Jun 2007 , 12:04pm by sugarbakerqueen
My mom wants me to make an Oscar statue for the big wig that is coming into town on thursday, at first the idea was RKT covered in fondant .... but the more I thought abotu it the moreit won't work because they will be handing it to him as an "award" and to get the fondant to cover the rkt I will have to use frosting and then it will not have enough time to dry and harden like I will need it to if they are going to be handling it, especially with the frosting underneath .... soooo would modeling chocolate work? I have never used modeling chocolatebefore? can I makethe whole sculpture out of it? or can I make a RKT sculpture and cover it with modeling chocolate? I am not really sure what would work best in this situation, my only concern with the RKT would be it now being smooth enough I need to do a trial run tonight to make sure I can even do this and let my mom know by tomorrow otherwise they will have to just go and try to buy a plastic statue.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN OFFER!
since it's going to be handed to him I'm going to say that modeling chocolate might not be the best thing. it IS chocolate and with the warmth from your/his hands it may start to melt unless you were going to cover the modeling chocolate with fondant?
How about covering it in gumpaste? that would dry better than fondant.
modeling chocolate over RKT will work (duff does it all the time)
but as cocorum21 pointed out -- melting issues.
if you could do it on top of a non-edible base, then could handle only by base.
if you want it totally edible, then has to be on a board and only be handled by the board to be safest.
PLEASE post pic when you are done....I can't wait to see what you come up with. I'm sure it will be amazing as all of your work is so creative and beautiful. ![]()
