Maybe I shouldn't, but sometimes I feel a bit guilty ordering pre-made flowers. I do enjoy making some myself, especially when it's something different. I've ordered from a maker here in CA that does a really nice job and the prices are reasonable. It really saves my hands as they get really sore at times. So....is that OK?
As long as you don't tell anyone that you are actually making the flowers then I see nothing wrong with ordering them.
I don't know how to make gumpaste flowers yet so I would order some if it is requested on a cake.
Don't feel guilty - there is local bakery here that orders their RI roses because of time constraints and because not everyone can do a nice rose who works there. The people get what they want and the cakes look very pretty. This is a great bakery and have been around forever it seems - so if it works for them why not others???? ![]()
You know, I NEVER had a clue that some folks used those pre-made flowers - then I read a post about it! Boy did I feel dumb - there have been lots of times when I have looked at a picture and thought, man - I will never get flowers that perfect!! Then I discovered that there are places that sell them and it was like a light bulb went off in my head!! DUH!
Having said that ~ there is nothing wrong with using them IMO - as long as you are not taking the credit for making them. If no one asks, then there is no reason to tell them either. ![]()
If I had a cake that required lots of flowers you can bet I'd be on the net placing my order. I did the floweres in class 6 years ago and haven't done many since. Just wasn't my fav thing, not that I hated it just not the fav! When I did my cousin's wedding cake a while back I bought roses then dusted with the blue shade she picked. So much easier and they looked great on the cake!
I wouldn't feel guilty about it. In fact, for people that are my friends I've sat them down at some of the pre-made flower websites and told them to pick what they like. No credit taking here
I did this hat box cake for someone and told them up front I would be using professionally made gumpaste flowers and built them into the cost of the cake. I was honest and they never even questioned it. They loved the cake.
I am horrible at making flowers and they also do not really interest me. So why not take advantage of beautiful flowers made by professionals? That's what they are for! ![]()
Boy, that cake is wonderful! I have only used pre-made flowers once, on my son's wedding rehearsal cake, due to time constraints. No one even asked. Of course, I would never pass someone else's work off as my own, not part of my moral code! I'm usually a hand's on person that usually does it all herself. So it was a bit tough. But I'll say this, it was pretty nice to just have to do a bit of color touch ups and put it on the cake! What a breeze!
PennySue~ I just had to say that your cakes are amazing!
WOW! I don't know which one I like best!!
