Please Help Me With My Laptop Cake...

I want to make a 3D laptop cake, but I have a few concerns.
I want it to look like an open laptop. Does anyone have any tips on how to make the top part of the laptop stay open and attached to the base?
I think I may just make the top part a piece of cardboard covered in black colored chocolate fondant.
Any tips, advice or recipes would be greatly appreciated ![]()
would sowel rods or straws work? If its going to be cardboard, you could use two pieces with the dowel rods in the middle. I was also going to suggest an edible image, but if the screen is cardboard anyway, it doesn't need to be edible. You an just use a color image for the for the screen. don't forget to post pictures.
Thnx good idea with the dowel rods.
I was thinking of taking a screen shot of the desktop of the computer.
Does anyone have any ideas for the keys?
I was just going to score it into the fondant and then write the letters in white buttercream with a fine tip.
I can't think of any other way...
I saw one where they used those dove chocolate treasure candies and cut them in half, so when they turned the ends up, they were kinda shaped like the keyboard buttons.
I've also seen chic-lets gum used, but of course, then you have a bright colored keyboard instead of all the same color.
