I am interested in making a baby figure for the top of a shower cake as I have seen many people do here, I would like to make it out of MMF as I already have some made. I saw someone post that they made one out of a mold. I'm not sure where i can get one and if MMF is the best medium. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm just not sure if I am skilled enough to sculpt if by hand. Thank you in advance for suggestions.

I have only molded with regular fondant but from what I've read mmf is the same just tastes better. I know with regular fondant you usually mix in some gumpaste to help with the drying. As far as the molds go, candy molds work and the kind you buy for polymer clay work as well. Hope this helps.

Kym, welcome to the forums! I have never molded figurines with fondant; but it you are talking about those sleeping babies under a blanket, I think you can sculpt it! They don't look too hard.

I found a mold in the clay isle at my craft store. Just spray with pam and press in.

I've seen molded baby molds before - I think sugarcraft.com has them..... I've never ordered from them though and don't have them, so I can't necissarily recommend them, but I can tell you that I think I've seen them there.... worth a try

So whether I sculpt it or mold it, should I first dye the MMF and then paint the details, clearly, I am very new at this part of it. I am willing to experiment, I have a week before I need the cake.
