Whenever I tint my fondant using the wilton gel colors and place it on my cake it always crack. Now I just apply the white fondant without tinting and then airbrush or paint the fondant with color. This is driving me crazy....how can I prevent the cracking. Could it be the wilton gel colors? My fondant never tears when I use it in it's original state.

TIA,
Cynita

Are you using premade fondant or are you making your own.

If using premade what brand, if making your own what recipe?

I just made this fondant for the first time and it was very forgiving. Didn't have any problems with cracks/tears and it colored easy and was simple to make.

I usually use Satin Ice fondant with the Wilton gel and I dont have any problems. I just made the Rhondas MMF recipe for the first time today and actually it came out! I never have any luck making fondant and this one did!!

weirkd, that's exactly what I use....Satin Ice w/wilton gel colors, but I seem to have tearing whenever I tint it

I have never tried making MMF. I just really don't want to because it is so convenient to just pull the satin ice right out of the bucket. I really don't want to make another thing from scratch since I do most of my baking from scratch. I like to put most of my time into decorating the cake.

I use Satin Ice fondant with some Wilton gel colors and have not had any problems with tearing. Are you having problems with dark colors only or with pastels as well?

Both, whenever I tint with color whether dark or pastel, it tears. Not as much if I tint pastel colors.

I didn't want to make MMF either, but it seriously comes together SO fast. I'd say it took 15 minutes, and you can make it a week in advance. I had to make it by hand, too. I don't have a buff mixer.
