Yesterday I made my first "3D" cake and was not very happy with the results. I made a sheet cake and put 2 dice on top of it. The part that I did not like was the way the dice looked on top. I put them on cake boards cut to size but I wanted the dice to be on top and not have to put a border around the dice. Did not go as planned. The cake boaard stuck out too tall so I had to put a border around the dice. How do I get the boards to "sink" into the cake enough so that I do not have to put a border around the object? I coed the cake then put the boards& dice on top. Should I put them on top then ice around it? That sounds pretty hard.

You can cut you board just slightly smaller than your cake, so when you sit it on the bottom layer, you won't see the board. Hope that helps.

You could also try making your icing really thick on the top cake so that your cake boards will 'sink' a little into the sheet cake.
