I am making a ladybug cake for a 1 year-olds birthday this weekend. I want it to be a good red, I was thinking about using an airbrushing can. Will this work with my buttercream frosting?
I am making the ladybug with a soccer ball cake pan and am making a base with a sheet cake pan and that will be the grass. It has to serve about 40 people. I am also making a ladybug smash cake and don't know what to bake it in??? I am new at this so any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

You can get a good red color out of buttercream but you would probably need a full container of gel color. I think the airbrushing would work you would just have to get it really even.
I would make the smash cake out of a cupcake and just used frosting to shape it right.

I use the Americolor Super Red and it makes a beautiful clear true red without adding a lot of color and NO weird taste! As far as the smash cake goes the mini ball pan that Wilton makes is perfect to use for a ladybug body just like you are going to do with the soccer ball pan. It's about the same as a cupcake but has a better round shape. I've also used the 3-D ball pan (1/2 of it) for a body with the mini ball for the head! Good Luck! -Lori
