Has anyone had trouble with the checkerboard cake pan set? I have now made it twice, and both times the cake rose very unevely and I ended up having to cut at least half off each cake. What a waste! The first time I used the recipe on the box, and the second time I used two BC cake mixes. I would appreciate any input.

Who made the cake pan? Do you have trouble with other things rising correctly? My mom has a checkerboard cake pan set and I have used it many times with no problem. I wonder if there is something wrong with the pan. I always have to cut off the dome part but in general, it seems to rise more evenly than my regular cakes. I don't mean to say that you have purchased something that was cheap but the pan my mom has is very nice (purchased many, many years ago). It is heavier than your average wilton cake pan. Just a thought. Try again with another recipe perhaps.

Just thought of something else, do you take out the seperator rings before you cook it??

It is the Wilton set, and yes, I did take the seperator ring out.
