I love this stuff, I am soo glad that I tried it, even though it is much more expensive than crisco. It is easier to smooth and crusts more quickly, less greasy and lighter feel. If it is available to you, I highly suggest giving it a try!

I love the high ratio but it should be cheaper then Crisco, depending how much you. I bought 50 lbs from sysco cash and carry store for $29 - no tax. Best investment for me. The big tub of CRISCO from Smart and final was $9 a can which is about 5lbs. Try some the places below to see if they have a cash and carry store near you.

I do not have enough cakes to make to buy that much! The only place that carries it around here is a cake store and it was a whopping $12.00 for 3 lbs. Probably because you can't find it anywhere else around here. I got 3lbs of crisco at Walmart for $3.00. Oh well, I wanted to try it and I hear it holds up better in high heat so it is well worth it to me!

I have never heard of hi-ratio shortening, what is the difference between that and plain Crisco? (BTW: I get 6 lbs for about $6) I like the idea of getting it in bulk, I do a LOT of cakes for my business. Is there a brand that you suggest I should try?

Hi-ratio shortening is a special type of shortening that is used specifically for baking purposes. It's not suppose to break down like Crisco and when used for buttercream, it doesn't have a greasy taste and is lighter. I bought a 50 lb box through GFS (www.gfs.com). Our grocery store who orders through GFS ordered it for us and they only charged us $58! The other benefit of hi-ratio is that you are suppose to use less shortening then what you would use for Crisco.
