My son is turning 1 and I am trying to do a winnie the pooh themed cake. My idea was to do a stacked round cake 10, 8, and 6. I was going to do some of the characters around the cake like the one below. I was planning on doing the cake fondant covered as well, but I could do buttercream... Anyway I just havent been able to execute the design like I am envisioning. I have tried to do the characters in chocolate and color flow so they could stand up, and I think I am having a little trouble because of the details and my inexperience with chocolate transfers. Does anyone have any other design ideas or tips?? My other idea was to just do a FBCT on the top, but I dont know what to put on the sides...

Maybe do the FBCT on top with plastic Pooh toys on the sides of the cakes.
He'll have toys to play with after the party and it's not as much work for you.

10, 8, and 6 sounds like an awfully big cake! How many people will be there? Plus, are you going to make a smash cake? I know the best time to practice is when you are doing something for your family ... but if it were me, I'd do the design on a sheet cake for the party.

I thought I read somewhere on here you can actually do a FBCT on the sides of the cake (tape it to the cake pan when you do it) but I could be terribly mistaken. I just did my very first one last night so I am by no means an expert.

You could always pipe balloons on the sides with the FBCT on top. I've heard tinted piping gel gives them very nice look.

Sorry not much help

I think that doing any licensed character can be tough because they have a very specific look. Maybe you could venture away from the actual characters and do stuff like trees (and what not) to represent the Hundred Acre Wood or things you would find there.

Rabbit's garden
Christopher Robin's yellow boots
Eyore's stick house

Attached is a cake that I did for a 5 year old. He was very happy with it. I wanted to do some fondant work, so I made the gifts out of fondant. I just combed the side and added piped balloons. I like the other suggestions you have received from the other members as well. Remember, this should be fun for you and your one year old. Just have fun with it.

thanks everyone! I think I am going to scale down my design because it is making me stressed!! (with all of the other party stuff to do, plus 3 kids!!) I know it is a lot of cake, but we are expecting a large group, plus I just want it to look the way I want it to look ( I know you all know!!)

msauer: I have been totally thinking the same thing about doing the characters, because they are so recognizable, everyone would know if they dont look 'right' I have sort of been kicking myself for picking that theme, but I think I will still do it.

I think I might just do one character for the top of the cake or FBCT and maybe do some bee's or something around the sides. But I am sure I might change my mind before now and then.

Anyway thanks for the ideas, I will certainly consider them all and post a pic when I am done!
