Hi all,

I did a search for color flow and I got a lot of threads that didn't even pretain to color flow so I am starting a new thread. I'm sure this answer is out there somewhere! Anyway, I have a cake due on Saturday and they want tap shoes on the cake and I was thinking of doing them in color flow. Either that or chocolate molds. The last time I did color flow my outline must have been too thick because you could see the bead around the letters. Aren't the outline and inside suppose to flow together and be seamless? I made color flow stars a few years ago and that didn't happen. I have a lot of trouble getting the right consistency of color flow (i do the drop method and count to 10). I could really use some advice as I don't want to do these tap shoes and have the outline bead be obvious. Thanks in advance.

Joanne

I've only done color flow a couple of times, but you can always see the boarder. The other thing is, if you are going to put this on buttercream, the shortening in the buttercream will break down the color flow -- it may take a couple of hours, but it will break it down. I think you would be better off with chocolate or maybe gumpaste.

True, I have heard about the breaking down of the color flow on buttercream though I didn't see it on my last few cakes but I know it can happen. the only issue I have with fondant or gumpaste is that I am not confident enough to do "sculpting". Have you or anyone used the candy molds to mold your fondant/gumpaste?

Hi icon_smile.gif you can use fondant / gumpaste in any type of moulds - chocolate, clay , anything... i rub the inside of the moulds with a little bit of shortening to stop the paste from sticking..

Thank you!! I think this is what I am going to do. Make MMF (cuz it tastes better) and do the molds. Problem solved. Thanks Ladies!!
