I am making a pirate ship and plan to cover it with fondant. I want the fondant to appear shiny. How do I make it look shiny and soft rather than dry and dull?
Thanks,
MSpeed

You could try and use luster or pearl dust.

Steam it with a steam iron on the areas you want to have a sheen.

I usually brush it with vodka or lemon juice. It will clean up all the "dust". The alcohol actually evaporates much quicker! If you have an airbrush, use pearl dust and vodka combined and spray it on...much faster.

If you have already colored the fondant, you could just use water and lightly brush it over the areas to make the fondant shine.

So far, I have the cake covered with the woodgrain colored fondant. I have brushed the entire cake with vodka and it has made it shiny. I never would have imagined that it would have made such a difference. Thanks for all of the help!! icon_biggrin.gif
