Has any one done this yet? wondered how easy it was and if it helped make edges look sharper?Thanks for the heads up icon_confused.gif

I've used it several times. I dont' know so much about the edges, but the surface gets really smooth. Just make sure to put something under the roller, like a viva or parchment. No matter how clean or new my roller is, I always end up getting little fuzzies on the surface of my cake.

I use a sponge roller and never have any prob. it is very easy

I just used the Melvira for the first time this weekend on my first wedding cake and I LOVE how smooth it turned out! I never want to make a cake without that handy little roller again icon_biggrin.gif

I've been using it ever since I first read it on this forum. I love it. I only do sheetcakes; so I don't get the edges very well. Borders usually my edges.

Hi--I HAVE and would not go back to the old way of smoothing the icing!! It's amazing!!! And lots less work!! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! icon_smile.gif

I use it all the time and it has made my life about a zillion times easier! I have a small size (maybe 3 or 4") for tight spaces and a larger (probably 6") for tops of sheet cakes and such. I still struggle with really sharp edges, and I wouldn't say this tool helps a ton with that, except maybe to kind of "push" the icing more level along the edges, if that makes sense.

I use the dense foam roller and haven't had any problems with it. It works great for me!!!

That's the ONLY way I smooth a cake, and 99% of my cakes get smoothed that way. If I don't use the Melvira method they don't get smoothed at all, like the WWE cake I just made didn't get smoothed cause I wanted it to look like a ruffled mat lol... It's very easy and very inexpencive icon_smile.gif

Also to get "sharp" corners/edges I just roll the top first then the sides and once I do that I can normally use my CLEAN fingers to just push it the way it needs to go icon_smile.gif

I used that method this past weekend, after my cake had crusted, and I couldn't notice a difference. I am not sure what I was doing wrong. I felt like I was applying the right amount of pressure. icon_confused.gif

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Melvira method! I use the foam roller, and sometimes my hand held pampered chef roller too. Still practicing on corners and edges, though!
