Help Need Ideas For Train Cake
Decorating By JENNSCAKES90909 Updated 1 Jul 2007 , 1:39am by Delicate-Lee
Hello everyone,
I have a customer who wants a thomas themed cake for her 3yr old dd bday party. so far we have come up with the wilton train pan and she would like individual cars for the 13-15 kids attending. we are also tossing around the idea of making the cars out of graham crackers and decorating them with royal icing and then filling them with something and placing a single cupcake in each car for the guest with thier name on a flag of some sort or on the side of the car. I am hoping for some suggestions on the cars, the filling for the cars and any suggestions on what to place the cakes on to make transportation and display easier oh and i forgot to mention the mountain with a tunneil the train is supposed to go through, Please help this is for the 30th of this month.
Thanks all
Jenn
HOw about wrapped candies for filling, the kids aren't going to be able to eat all that in one sitting and it might be easier to bring home if it's not loose M&Ms or something. Maybe you could get some bags the cars would fit in so the kids can take the cars and candy home after they eat the cupcakes, the customer could place them in the bags. I would write the name of each kid on the side of the car, kids love seeing their name in icing.
I don't know how I'd do the tunnel for sure, I might not cut out the opening for stability and make it look like Thomas is almost there.
It sounds like it's going to be a huge project but it's a good idea.
Check out this link...it's a really cute train cake...

Thank you for all of your suggestions . I am starting the boxcars tommorow so that the royal icing has time to harden. I also have a 4 tier wedding cake this weekend. I will post a picture here as soon as I am finished .
What about individual mini loaf pan cakes individually decorated? Just a thought
THANKS,
So far I used royal icing to glue the boxcars together out of graham crackers and then used mini oreo's attached to the bottom of the cars for the wheels. now I am waiting for everything to dry.....
Has anyone suggested this?
