Hi!
Welcome to CC. Like me, you will find this wesite sooooo useful, encouraging and instructional! When I started decorating, I used the Wilton decorator's icing, one that is mostly shortening. I recommend this because it is more stable than an all butter frosting, or you can use half shortening or half butter, this makes it taste better too. As you get more advanced you can then progress to butter. That is what I recommend icon_smile.gif

This is the Wilton decorator's Icing:

1 cup solid white vegetable shortening(or you can do 1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 cup Butter)

1 teaspoon Flavoring

2 -5 tablespoons milk or water (depending on the concistency you want)

1 lb. pure cane confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar)

1 tablespoon meringue poweder (This makes it dry and cust faster, but it you don't have it, you dont have to put it in.)

A pinch of salt (optional, this breaks the sweetness a bit)

Cream shortening, flavoring and water. Add dry ingredients and mix on medium speed until all ingredients have been throughly mixed together. Blend an aditional minute or so, until creamy. You can always add more water (or milk) to get it thinner.

Hopes this helps! Good luck, and make sure to post pictues of you cake icon_smile.gif

My recipe is easy and delicious.

2 lbs. confectioners sugar
1 Cups shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup water

Mix for at least two minutes on high speed.
It's enough to frost the cake and decorate including borders.
