Watched the food network challenge rerun tonight...I just was intrigued by the "whipped chocolate ice cream" that the one lady made on her castle. How do you make whipped chocolate and scoop it like ice cream? It sounded like a technique good to keep on the back burner just in case.

And what in the world happened to that lady anyway? I enjoyed the challenge so much until I saw the lady had passed away last year. Then I got depressed. icon_sad.gif She seemed so sweet.

What!? icon_surprised.gif I saw the re-run tonight and I enjoyed it as much as the first time I saw it. I had no idea that the lady who won the challenge has past away last year. I wonder what happened to her. I'm in shock! About the whipped chocolate, what I heard was that after melting the chocolate she kept whipping and adding water until it gets the consistency like ice cream. I don't know much about it but that's what I heard tonight. I love these challenges because you can learn so much! I always learn something new, and sometimes I even take a notebook with me when I'm going to watch a challenge icon_smile.gif

She was a mentor and friend of mine. She actually used chocolate and water. It seized and then she scooped it. She passed away the night after she won. I was at that challenge, it was good to see her!

NO...NOT water -- that would cause the chocolate to seize (turn rock hard instantly)

HEAVY CREAM is the liquid of choice.

So you whip the chocolate and then slowly add heavy cream until its the consistency of a scoopable ice cream? And then I assume it hardens somewhat right?

OHHHH that is so sad, so soon after the competition! How terrible!

Okay now I'm depressed... icon_cry.gif

At the challenge she heated the chocolate and then whupped it with water. It was pretty smart being hot and all. Of course they were not eaten!

I know that water and chocolate doesn't mix, I know that part. But, I saw this lady in the competition when she actually added water to the chocolate mix and there's a guy who weares glasses and he was narrating what she was doing and he said she was adding water. To me it was weird because I know about water and chocolate and I thought at that moment "it can't be true", but I swear I saw when she added the water to the chocolate mix, in fact the chocolate was green color. So, if they show this re-run again in the future be alert because I'm telling the truth. Anyway, I am not an expert so I will probably follow the recipe that Doug shared with us.

Hmmm now I wanna try it and see. haha. It does seem like it'd work, I can see how seized chocolate could resemble the grainy look of a scoop of ice cream....

Did she add alot of water or just a tiny bit at a time until it seized?

I missed the first few minutes of the program.

I am depressed now too! icon_cry.gif I can just see her daughter, husband, and all the cute grandkids with broken hearts. I was so sad to hear that news...

She did use water in the chocolate.... the "ice cream" looked adorable under the cones. A great tip for the ever popular castle cake. icon_smile.gif
