Ok, everyone put their thinking caps on. I just got an email to do a birthday cake for aug 12th for a 7 year old and he likes hunting or fishing. I would like somehow to incorporate both, if possible. Pics and suggestions will be appreciated.

Just woke up (day off, 730 is a sleep-in lol), so thinking cap isnt on yet, but this came to mind, maybe something humorous:
A rectangle or round cake. Make most of the cake the water, and then a dock coming out of the water's edge, and a little fondant boy holding a shotgun (chocolate maybe? or that might melt in the heat lol) aiming it at the water. In the 'water' you have a bunch of fish (fondant or MMF) sort of 'exploding' out of the water as he shot them. OR same lake scene, MMF or fondant boy sitting on the edge of the dock with a fishing rod and sort of reeling it in, and at the end of it is the head of a deer? (don't need to do the whole deer obviously, just have it look like the deer is mostly underwater being dragged by the fishing line, head and antlers above)

If you need me to sketch that, I'd be happy to as soon as I get my coffee 'injected' lol

ok that's it for now- more ideas probably when I've had my coffee icon_lol.gif

The first thing that came to my mind was a wood scene with a pond. Some trees....a deer behind one; and the little boys sitting fishing with some tackle.

Around the bottom border you could make grass and put fishing lures around it or something.

It sounds like a cake to have fun with.

Maybe you could find out which one he likes more and concentrate on that one the most.

Good Luck!!! Let us see it when you're finished!!

What about a stream or lake with woods in the background. Have a deer drinking out of the water with fish swimming in the water. If you have time you could also have a boy with a fishpole in one hand and a gun in the other, like he can't make up his mind what to do (shoot or fish). Sorry that's all I can think of.

Or have him aiming the gun at the water and the fishing pole at the deer icon_lol.gif

Yeah the more things you have to incorporate the harder it gets LOL
I was making a Dora Jigsaw puzzle cake for my niece's 3rd birthday 2 weekends ago and I had that in the planning stage for a couple of months trying to combine everything she's into- we always have tea parties together too, just the 2 of us, and I was trying to figure out how to combine Dora, puzzles and tea party LOL gave up - and settled on 2 out of 3. Sometimes it just doesnt work. I'm sure the boy has a passion for one over the other.

3D deer head have been popular. Someone here (sorry can not remember name) gave me the instructions and they are easy. He probably would get a kick out of a deer head on a wall plaque.

I think 'oceanspitfire's' idea of catching a deer with a fishing pole is super funny!! Just add a couple of fish swimming near the deer.

What about a fish coming out of the water to take aim at the fisherman? icon_smile.gif

This all just reminded me of a pic my bro in law has in his bathroom- rear angle shot of him peeing into a lake (not an exhibitionist shot icon_wink.gif ) and the text overtop the photo is 'We don't fish in your toilet, so don't pee in our lake!' LOL (He's an avid fisherman)

You could also do it in a fbct or chocolate transfer. Both are easy and fun. There are tutorials on both here on CC. Just an idea. Google images for a boy hunting or fishing.

Has anybody thought of a cake where a fish is holding a hunting rifle in it's fins? I beleive the caption about peeing in the lake would be good in this case.

I'm going to have to keep these ideas handy for future reference. I like your idea oceanspitfire of pointing the fishpole at the deer and the gun at the fish. Put little question marks above his head. My dh and I have a friend who is and avid fisherman and hunter. This would be perfect for him. [/quote]

You could have a guy in a hunting stand with some dead fish next to him...I know it's not the most attractive thought, but it's what came to mind!
