I'm sick of buying small bags of powdered sugar and want to buy in bulk. First question, where does everyone here get their bulk ps? How big a bag do you buy and what brand? Also, if you have a huge bag of sugar, how do you store it to keep out moisture and any other ps killers? Thanks for any suggestions!

I buy 7ib bags at Sam's. It's Bakers and Chefs brand. I keep mine in the fridge or freezer. It keeps it from clumping and keeps the pests out. I have always heard that keeping it in the freezer is the way to go.

GFS has 25 lb boxes of 6x powdered sugar, IIRC the price was around $13.00, so about .50/lb.

It's in a bag, then inside a cardboard box, so it's easy to carry and easy to stack, plus more protected than just a plastic bag would be.

I bought one box, and finally used it up - I'm not doing too many cakes or cookies right now to use 25 lb quickly, LOL! It did need to be sifted, as there were small hard lumps in it. I'm not sure if that was because it was 6x rather than 10x, or for some other reason.

hth!

I buy the 7lb bags, too. I get mine from Costco because I have a free membership there with my job.

After I open a bag, I pour the rest into one of those huge plastic ice cream containers. It has a handle, an airtight seal and it's easy to scoop out of. I have one that's completely devoted to powdered sugar and three or four others that I use for icing storage.

Tupperware!! I use the modular mates. The largest one I have holds 5 lbs, I think. The modular mates are fabulous. I don't keep anything in mine, stays nice a fresh. I have all my flour, powdered sugar, brown sugar, etc, stored in modular mates. And plus, they're stackable, they're labeled and they're organized.

Hey, I should sell Tupperware. hehe.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions...I'll have to look into the 25 lb bags at GFS. Only thing is the 6x makes me a little hesitant cause I usually use 10, do you notice a big difference in quality? Tina those tupperware things sound neat, I'll have to check them out! And rach, that's a good idea to have dedicated containers to store your already made icing. I have a million gladware things full of it in every nook and cranny of my apartment....lol!!

Thanks again!

I buy 25lb bags at Sams for around $13. DH bought me a huge orange bucket at Home Depot that is for paint or something...I think it's 5 gallons and has a snap lid that snaps air tight. We bleached it ((brand new, never used for anything else), rinsed it very well, let it air dry, and I keep my powder sugar in it. Works great!

I get my 25 lb bags at Smart and Final - found the price is better than Costco or Sams Club -- I store in the same type of Home Depot paint tub that was bought for this purpose.
