Kaye's Buttercream Question????

This is probably a stupid question, but I was just wondering, in Kaye's Whimsical Bakehouse BC frosting, is it 2 1/4cups of granulated sugar or powdered sugar.

If it's for making a sugar syrup (boiling with water) it's granulated. If it's going directly into a mixture of butter and/or shortening it's powdered.
